John Richard Adams, age 94, a longtime resident of the Nestorville Community, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 16, 2026, at Mountain Living Assisted Living in Belington.
Born on December 1, 1931, in Grafton, West Virginia, John was the son of the late John Adams and Ida Mabel (Marsh) Adams.
John is survived by his loving wife, Martha Virginia (Gribble) Adams; his son-in-law, Jeffrey Krell; his nephew, Richard Love; and several great-nieces and great-nephews, sister-in-law Lois Adams
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his daughter, Diane Krell, and his brothers, Paul Adams and Jack Adams, sister Dorothy June Love, nephews Gary Hutson, and Steven Marsh, niece Kay Colley
A proud veteran, John honorably served his country in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. Following his military service, he enjoyed a long career as an equipment operator with the Operating Engineers Union. John had a deep appreciation for country living and found great satisfaction in tending to his farm. He enjoyed attending local fairs and festivals and had a remarkable knack for working on vehicles, tractors, and just about anything mechanical. He was always happiest when fixing, building, or maintaining equipment.
John was a member of Belington American Legion Post #96 and the Operating Engineers Union.
John’s family will welcome friends at Wright Funeral Home and On-Site Crematory, 220 N. Walnut Street, Philippi, on Monday, July 20, 2026, from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. and again on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, from 9:00 until 11:00 a.m. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday in the funeral home chapel. John will be laid to rest in Nestorville Cemetery. Military honors will be accorded at the cemetery by the United States Air Force and Belington American Legion Post #96.
